Runways

There are two runways:

  • Runway 22 / 04 is paved for 9,006 feet by 150 feet
  • Runway 16 / 34 is a dirt runway, 3,850 feet long, 190 feet wide

Fire Tanker

The airport is a designated United States Forest Service fire tanker base which is operational between April and June annually.

Airport Runway

Department Description

The Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport is a general aviation airport owned and operated by the City of Alamogordo. Additionally, the Airport is a designated United States Forest Service Fire Tanker Base. The tanker aircraft are on station at the Airport from June to August annually. The Airport has two runways, one paved and one dirt. The City owns the terminal building, maintenance shop, fire station and 1500 acres of fenced-in property. The Airport employs two personnel.

To provide a necessary transportation hub for the continued growth of Alamogordo and the surrounding communities. Maintain the Airport to the highest standards of safety and utility, and to preserve the airport for future general aviation.
